Jamaica is an island in the Caribbean Sea. The only to reach AM2008 (the 57th August GA of the IFMSA) is via international flights. We have secured agreements for discounted airfares, with two airlines which are part of the ONEWORLD alliance (see offers BELOW).

All International flights into Jamaica, will take you to either of our two international airports:

  • The Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston or,
  • The Donald Sangster International Airport (DSIA) in Montego Bay

Remember! The designated airport for the pre-GA is the NMIA in Kingston; the designated airport for the GA is the DSIA in Montego Bay.

Discounted Airfares on oneworld

The ONEWORLD alliance is a worldwide network of 10 airlines that encompasses more than 650 destinations in over 130 countries. The JAMSA OC is pleased to announce that we have made direct arrangements with two members of ONEWORLD:

American Airlines Travel Discounts

A discount agreement has been completed between American Airlines and the Jamaica Medical Students' Association for travel to Jamaica.

TRAVEL PERIOD: Valid for flights between July 31 - August 16, 2008.

You will need a promotional code [contact your NMO for the promo code] to access a 5% discount on offer from American Airlines. The discount is applicable for your entire trip, including another carrier in the ONEWORLD Alliance, as long as one segment is booked, and flown, on American Airlines equipment.

This percentage discount can be booked on-line at www.aa.com for American Airlines and American Eagle flights only. Reservations including another carrier will not price on AA.com.

Delegates from anywhere in the United States or Canada can call the American Airlines Meeting Services Desk toll free at 1-800-433-1790 to make discount reservation, or go to www.aa.com and refer to the Promotion Code. There will also be a separate ticketing charge of $15.00 USD for tickets purchased via the phone or $20.00 USD for tickets purchased at the airport. This amount is subject to change. At this time there is no ticketing fee for reservations made and ticketed on www.aa.com.

Delegates from all other countries will need to call their local American Airlines reservations number or their local travel agent and refer to the Promotion Code or book on-line at www.aa.com.

British Airways' Closed User Group Discount Ticketing System

British Airways is pleased to offer the Jamaica Medical Students Association an impressive tailor-made deal for delegates travelling to the 57th General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) from destinations around the world. You can rest assured that you will always be offered the best possible deal for the flights and dates that you have chosen.

British Airways (BA) has specifically designed a Closed User Group (CUG) online ticketing system for delegates to access discounted flights into Jamaica using a specific section of the BA website for the 57th August General Assembly of the IFMSA in Jamaica. The discount is applicable for your entire trip, including another carrier in the ONEWORLD Alliance and other code shares as long as one segment is booked, and flown, on British Airways.

TRAVEL PERIOD: Valid for flights between July 26, 2008 - August 23, 2008

Other Travel Options

Read below as to the ways you can get to Jamaica from major cities and regions around the world. You may find that separate ticketing for the different segments (connections) of your journey may result in an overall cheaper ticket! However you run the risk of being stranded if a one of your flights is delayed and you miss your connecting flight(s).

EUROPE
We recommend that you use London as your major connecting hub. There are many non-stop flights available from London, into both Montego Bay and Kingston each week.

Some other European cities have weekly or fortnightly flights into Jamaica. There are also chartered flights into Jamaica from other European cities. Contact your travel agent for details.

There are many flights that you can also choose, through both the cities of New York and Miami in the United States, from your home country in Europe.

Airlines to check include: British Airways, American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic Airways, TUI-Netherlands, Britannia, My Travel, Air Europa or your domestic carriers.

AFRICA & THE MIDDLE EAST
We recommend that you use London as your major connecting hub. You may also have direct flights to New York or Miami that are equally useful. All these cities have direct flights to Jamaica.

Africa:
There are direct and connecting flights to:

  • London
  • Frankfurt
  • New York or Miami

Middle East:
Fly straight to London then direct to Jamaica
Fly to Frankfurt, then onto London or New York or Miami and then direct to Jamaica

Airlines to check include: British Airways, American Airlines, Royal Jordanian or your domestic carriers.

ASIA/PACIFIC
Delegates from this region may either fly to the west coast of the United States or to Europe. You may have to go though Singapore or Hong Kong which can access the United States or European airports.

Delegates may find it easier to go through the west coast of the United States, as there are connecting flights from Los Angeles, California into Jamaica, or you may also choose to go through Europe, via London or Frankfurt with other connections to come to Jamaica.

Airlines to check include: British Airways, American Airlines, QANTAS, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, and Singapore Airlines.

NORTH AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN
There are many direct (non-stop) daily flights from many North American cities, mainly in the USA, into Jamaica.

SOUTH AMERICA
There are direct and connecting flights into Jamaica from:

  1. Panama directly (non-stop) into Kingston on Copa Airways, which flies on Sundays and Wednesdays each week. Copa Airways has extensive reach throughout many South American cities.
  2. Venezuela via the island of Curaçao, using Aeropostale and Air Jamaica.
  3. Almost every South American country via Miami (in the USA) into both Montego Bay and Kingston. Use American Airlines or your domestic airline.
